Madame President - Distinguished

 Distinguished President K Eleanor Small

History was created during the year 2004-2005 when K Eleanor Small became the first female to become President of the Kiwanis Club of Barbados South. She was the second female to be inducted into the club during the presidency of DP Maurice Clarke – 1998/1999. Up until that time the South Club had been an all male club.

She was elected as a Director for two years, from 2000-2001; and has also served as Programme Chair before coming through the ranks to be elevated to her present position.

K Eleanor was Kiwanian of the Quarter, October to December 1999; and became a Mel Osborne Fellow in 2000/2001; she enjoys working in all aspects of the community.

K Eleanor attended District Convention in Jamaica in 2001/2002 and International Convention in New Orleans 2002/2003,in addition to several Divisional Council Meetings for Division 27.

One of her Presidential goals was to make the South Club more visible in the community. She achieved  this as the Club busied itself in a number of high profile community projects.

Her year as “one of the boys’’ was certainly exciting. She was privileged to accompany Governor John Button and his wife Debbie on a  tour of one of the South Club’s projects at the Ellerton Day Nursery  during his visit to Barbados for the Mid Winter Conference .

The Club was very happy recently to receive the news that the Club had achieved Distinguished Status under her presidency, making her a distinguished President.

Distinguished President Eleanor holds a B.Sc. in Accounting and is employed at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus for just over 33 years. She enjoys all kinds of outdoor sports and still holds fond memories of her years as a first class netball player. These days she spends her time outside of Kiwanis reading.

She is the proud mother of one daughter Asha, an Attorney-at –Law.
